"Shoulder screws, also known as shoulder or stripper bolts, have a smooth unthreaded shaft that acts as a spacer or bearing surface between the threaded portion and the screw head. Shoulder screws with round shafts are commonly used for items that require rotation, while those with square shafts are typically used to lock into place and prevent rotation.
Socket shoulder screws to ISO 7379 also known as shoulder bolts, stripper bolts or precision shoulder screws have a plain (un-threaded) shoulder section located between the head and the thread.
The plain shouldered section is larger in diameter than the threaded section of the fastener and is commonly used as a pivot, shaft or stationary guide in applications such as pulleys, cams, gears, latches etc.
The outside head of the socket shoulder screw is commonly ‘knurled’ allowing better manual tightening and grip from the user / installer.
Note: Socket shoulder screws are measured differently than most other socket fasteners i.e. when specifying a standard socket button a user would specify the diameter and total length required under the head. With socket shoulder screws the threaded length is a constant, it is the length of the unthreaded larger diameter shoulder that is the variable.
ISO 7379 socket shoulder screws / shoulder bolts are available from Quanyuan Fastener in Steel grade 12.9, A2 Stainless Steel and A4 Stainless Steel.
Sizes from M5 to M20, with lengths ranging from 6mm to 120mm. UNC, UNF, BSW and BSF sizes are also available. (Note: M5 is the threaded diameter and the shoulder diameter will be larger)
Non-standard sizes, materials and finishes are available to order as specials, including small volume manufacture, modifications and bespoke parts made to drawings. Minimum order quantities apply."
